About AcTI

Goals and operation

The Netherlands Academy of Technology and Innovation AcTI aims at advancing the understanding of interactions between technology, science and society. AcTI furthers contacts between authorities either working in the Netherlands in the field of technological, technical-scientific research and development and innovation, or bearing responsibility for these activities, from industry as well as from universities and research organisations. Likewise, it furthers contacts between the individual members of the Academy and government institutions, social groupings, political bodies and the like.

AcTI seeks to achieve its aims by:

  • Advising by individual members, with or without request, governmental bodies, societal organisations or political parties,
  • discussing and assessing developments regarding technology and the interactions between technology and science and society in general,
  • discussing and assessing developments in national and international government policy regarding technology, education and research, maintaining relationships with related societies and organisations abroad.

AcTI's authority is exercised by the General Assembly of all members. All five officers and members of the governing Board are elected by the members. The Board is selected from the members. Each member of the Board serves a two years' term, which can be prolonged twice with a period of two years, not exceeding six years in total.
Working parties are set up by the AcTI on the proposal of the Board, reporting regularly to the General Assembly about their activities and findings. The operations of the General Assembly, Board and Working Parties are supported and co-ordinated by the Executive Secretary and his staff.
